We live in a world of constant distractions, over-stimulation and resultant anxiety. I have suffered from anxiety for many years. One way I have coped with this anxiety is through a counselor, reading self-help books and the like.

One of the self-books I bought mentioned exercise as the most effective way of relieving stress. Not only does exercising help you relieve stress, but it increases your overall health. Many people are also very overweight or obese in the world.

It is important to burn fat efficiently during and after a work out.I have some experience with this. What I learned from a book called the “Abs Diet” is that the more muscle mass you have, the more calories per day you burn – your metabolism is therefore higher and you burn fat more efficiently in your work outs.

I also learned that doing excessive cardio (more than 30 minutes of running) can actually burn muscle mass once your body goes into a certain mode. I have been on a routine that has helped me feel more energized, lose weight, and decrease my overall anxiety. What I do is I will jog to the gym (10 minutes away from me). My heart-rate will be elevated so I will not only burn fat and calories, but rip apart muscles so they can heal better. After I am done with the work out (be it an arms, legs or chest/back, I will do some form of cardio like swimming or jogging back to my apartment.

I also play tennis from time to time on the days I do not lift weights. I feel 200% better and I’m losing weight and feeling a lot healthier. A lot of my pre-diabetes symptoms are even going away. The more muscle we have the more efficiently we burn fat. So my goal is not to lift weights to become stronger but to lift weights to burn fat and be healthier, even though big muscles are a aesthetically pleasant side effect.

The best and only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat healthy. Oh and exercise of course! It can’t be fun following a diet plan, I know. With baby weight and poor previous diet habits, I needed a diet that isn’t boring or tasteless. With any diet, you have to put in the work. Regardless of all those ‘get thin quick’ commercials, it’s not THAT easy.

Find good recipes, there are plenty of great cook books and websites providing these, you just have to look. Lifetime television, corny, I know, but just try it, the recipes are delicious. If you are a tv person, you can watch these shows also. Eating healthy is your first goal to helping you lose weight. That is why I HAVE to mention it first.

Secondly, you need to exercise to burn fat. If you are one of those people who buy a gym membership and never use it, then don’t waste your money on that, find a new ways to burn those pounds off. If you have stairs, great exercise. take a few extra trips up and down a day. Purposely leave things to make yourself have to go back down just ONE more time. Or how about just a walk. Do you HAVE to drive to the grocery store for that one thing your forgot? All it takes is a little push and then you will feel so different from even that little bit of fat burned. You’ll want more once you start. Not goal orientated? Well then sign up for classes that charge you even if you don’t show up to force yourself into it.

Pilates is a great class to take. You will gain strength and flexability in one class. Don’t worry though, it’s not like yoga. You won’t be curling into a ball in some weird fashion. It is simply a way to burn fat and stretch out those muscles at the same time. There are different levels like with most exercise programs as well.

Pilates is one of the most favored ways of exercise today. It was a program designed in a rehabilitation center. It can also help with back and aliment problems. Not into ‘chick exercise’? Try weight lifting. If you can afford a personal trainer, this is the best way to go, but if not, then just hit the weights by yourself. (Remember, weights are dangerous, they have to be used carefully.)

Lifting weights only requires a little bit of knowledge of equipment. As long as you are working out different parts of the body you will do just fine on your own. Just turn on that rockin music and start in on some heavy lifting. Weights are a great way to tone muscle and get that ‘just worked out’ feeling. When you are just starting out, that is an awesome feeling, knowing you are accomplishing something with your body.

If you can stick with any kind of work out regime and eat those healthy foods, you will shed that extra weight. You have to REALLY want it. Nothing will work if you just do it half way. Commit to burning that fat.
