			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium <em>Treponema pallidum</em>. Health officials report over 37,000 cases of syphilis every year including all stages of syphilis. The stages of syphilis include:</p>
<p><strong>Primary Stage</strong></p>
<p>Signs may occur from 10 days to three months after exposure and include:</p>
<ul>
<li>A small, firm, painless sore (chancre, pronounced &#8220;SHANG-ker&#8221;) on the part of your body where the bacteria entered, usually your genitals, rectum, tongue or lips. A single chancre is typical, but you may have multiple sores. (The sore will heal without treatment, but the syphilis infection remains. In some people, syphilis then moves to the secondary stage.)</li>
<li>Enlarged lymph nodes.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Secondary Stage</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Rash of brown or red spots on feet and hands. Usually on the bottom.</li>
<li>Fever</li>
<li>Wart-like sores in the mouth or genital area</li>
<li>Swollen lymph glands</li>
<li>Soreness and aching</li>
<li>Sore throat</li>
</ul>
<p>As you can see many of these symptoms can be mistaken as other problems and/or sexually transmitted diseases. So testing when you think you may have been infected with syphilis is critical because left untreated can cause serious issues.</p>
<p><strong>Late and Latent Stages</strong></p>
<p>This stage(s) of syphilis are the most dangerous. Without quick treatment people can go blind, go crazy, and even die. So once again testing is extremely important so you can get the proper treatment as fast as possible.</p>
<p>Symptoms of the previous stages will have gone away on there own making people think that they are okay when in fact they are not and more problems will occur. Some symptoms may include:</p>

<p>What you may not know is the true cause of heart disease&#8230; the real culprits.</p>
<p>Is it cholesterol?</p>
<p>Is it saturated fats?</p>
<p>The AMA (American Medical Association) and the AHA (American Heart Association) as well as the food industry have been telling us so forever. Okay, maybe not forever, but a long time!</p>
<p>If we know what the cause is, why have heart disease escalated into becoming our nation&#8217;s #1 killer?</p>
<p><strong>3 Reasons Why Cholesterol and Saturated Fats Are Not the True Causes of Heart Disease</strong></p>
<p>1. <strong>How can it be that as the consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol declined sharply from the levels it used to be, heart disease increased proportionately?</strong> It appears that the statistics are telling a different story than what the AMA, AHA, and the food industry has been telling us.</p>
<p>2. <strong>Just look at significant role that saturated fats and cholesterol play in our bodies.</strong> It will probably surprise you to know that saturated fats comprise at least 50% of your cell membranes (every single one of your trillions of cells), giving them stiffness and integrity. Cholesterol also makes up part of the cell membrane, regulating its fluidity (what passes in and out) as well as giving stiffness and stability to the cell membrane. Additionally, cholesterol is a precursor to bile (which is produced in the liver and gall bladder to emulsify fats), Vitamin D, the steroid hormones (that help us deal with stress), and the sex hormones. Cholesterol is also very important for proper development of the brain and nervous system, so mother&#8217;s milk is very cholesterol-rich, and contains a special enzyme to help the baby utilize this nutrient. How can saturated fats and cholesterol possibly be the bad guys in light of this information?</p>
<p>3. <strong>HDL and LDL are NOT forms of cholesterol!</strong> That&#8217;s right, HDL and LDL are really lipoproteins, carrier molecules for cholesterol and other fats. Because cholesterol and other fats are not water-soluble, they require a carrier molecule to transport them through the blood stream. Even more interestingly, these carrier molecules have built-in cell-targeting signals, directing them to specific target cells. Don&#8217;t you wonder why?</p>
<p><strong>Over Twenty Years of Research Has Established Inflammation&#8217;s Key Role in Atherosclerosis</strong></p>
<p>But what&#8217;s causing the inflammation?</p>
<p>Is it cholesterol or saturated fats, as the AMA, AHA and food industry has led us to believe? It is NOT. We already proved it above.</p>
<p>The mechanism by which periodontal disease causes inflammation via free radicals produced by the immune system is well-known and accepted. But the role saturated fats and cholesterol play in inflammation is unknown to medical doctors. That&#8217;s because something else is causing the inflammation leading to atherosclerotic plaques. That something else happens to be the very polyunsaturated oils touted as &#8220;heart healthy&#8221; by the AMA, AHA, and the food industry. All of this information is well supported and detailed in my book, Revolutionizing Your Health.</p>
<p><strong>How the Supposedly &#8220;Heart Healthy&#8221; Oils Are the True Causes of Heart Disease&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>Polyunsaturated oils go rancid and become oxidized very easily by heat and light, which mean they become a free radical. Free radicals are very unstable molecules missing an electron. In the body, they try to stabilize themselves by &#8220;stealing&#8221; an electron from neighboring cells. This continues in a domino effect, wreaking cellular destruction and producing inflammation. In fact, the high heat used in processing these oils often creates free radicals before the oil even leaves the processing plant. Additionally, when these oils are used for cooking, and especially for frying, they produce tremendous amounts of free radicals.</p>
<p>Earlier, it was discussed that saturated fats make up at least 50% of cell membranes, along with cholesterol. The trouble is that our bodies don&#8217;t distinguish between saturated fats and polyunsaturated oils. A diet high in polyunsaturated oils will then be incorporated into cell membranes in place of the more stable and functional saturated fats. In effect this makes weaker cell membranes that are loaded with free radicals. This produces the inflammation that cardiologists now know to be at the root of heart disease. Cholesterol is simply the &#8220;repair substance&#8221; the body uses to repair the cellular damage produced by the free radicals in polyunsaturated oils.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Spanish researchers believe that baldness and an enlarged prostate are linked, with men with one of the conditions likely to develop the other.</p>
<p>At a meeting of the American Urological Association, the team said that men who were bald had prostates that were 34% larger than men who still had full heads of head. Furthermore, the men who were going bald experienced a urine flow that was 32% lower than those men with hair. Low urine flow is an early indicator of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).</p>
<p>The news will not come as a huge surprise to scientists, who have long suspected a link between BPH and male-pattern baldness.  The most common cause of hair loss in men, male pattern baldness is called by overly high levels of a hormone known as 5-alpha-reductase. The enzyme converts the hormone testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, which in some men causes the hair follicle to shrink. 5-alpha-reductase is also associated with BPH, as DHT is known to play a key role in prostate growth.</p>
<p>Both male pattern baldness and BPH can be treated with the same drug, finasteride. Marketed as Propecia for baldness and Proscar for BPH, the drug inhibits the enzyme that encourages the conversation to DHT.</p>
<p>Propecia is one of the few treatments that has been proven to make a difference to male-pattern <a href="http://www.theonlineclinic.co.uk/hairloss-treatments.asp">baldness and stop hair loss</a>. A prescription medication, men have reported that long-term use has prevented further hair loss and even in some cases encouraged re-growth of hair.</p>
<p>It has also been associated with preventing prostate cancer. The Prostate Cancer Prevention Study examined a group of men aged over 55 to see whether <a href="http://www.theonlineclinic.co.uk/med-propecia.asp">finasteride reduced</a> incidences of prostate cancer. In 2003, the trial was stopped early when it appeared that Propecia reduced prostate cancer rates by 25%.</p>
<p>The study was begun based on knowledge that prostate cancer is strongly affected by male hormones. Studies had previously shown that men with low levels of alpja-5-reductase due to an inherited deficiency do not develop prostate cancer, as they cannot convert testosterone to DHT.</p>
<p>This new study builds on the existent body of knowledge linking the prostate and male-pattern baldness. Hopefully, as we understand the two better, better treatments and earlier diagnosis will follow.</p>
<p>In a statement, Dr. Kevin McVary, spokesman for the Urology Association, said “BPH is a very treatable condition that can significantly impact quality of life if left unchecked. The study suggests that patients with [baldness] should talk with their doctors about any urinary symptoms they may be experiencing so that we can minimize this impact by taking preventative measures.&#8221;</p>
