Parkinsons Disease
Parkinson’s disease could be defined as a disorder of the brain that largely affects or reduces muscle control in human body. A large number of people who are afflicted with this disorder are in the age group 50-70. This disease has been named after an English Physician named James Parkinson, who first described it in the year 1817.
Parkinson’s diseases symptoms are, trembling of hands, taut muscles, and very slow movements, loss of equilibrium or balancing difficulties and slight slur in speech too. The definite causes of Parkinson’s disease are still relatively unknown.
The symptoms of the disease are accompanied by destruction of nerve cells in a particular region of the brain, which lead to debility in muscular activities. The symptoms of the disease are slow to emerge and often go unnoticed in the beginning. They usually start with trembling in one hand and on one side of the body and slowly progress to the other side too.
A person affected with parkinsons disease cannot ambulate with ease, finds difficulty in writing and coordinating his fingers while buttoning his clothes. The disease may be crippling, but is not known to cause death. Certain medications are prescribed for treating the disease, but continued use of these drugs is known to cause side effects like, abnormal movements, insomnia and hallucinations.
Methods to cure Parkinson’s disease include transplanting tissue from adrenal gland into that part of the brain which controls body movements. The adrenal gland which are located near the kidney, are said to produce hormones which are akin to dopamine , a kind of chemical employed by the nerve cells to communicate with the rest of the brain. It is indeed very painful to watch certain people who have been very active in their particular areas of work to be suddenly afflicted with this disease, which impedes their bodily movements and inflicts a harsh blow to their ego.
